Please try the following:
- Make sure you have write permissions in the selected output folder.
- Make sure your files have the proper suffixes (for example, "flac" works, but "fla" does not).
- Download the latest release and try again.
- Reboot your machine and try again. (I don't know why, but this often works)
- If you're having problems converting m4a to mp3, you might try turning on VBR.
- If your mp3 contains static at the end, you might try turning off VBR.
- If you're on OSX Intel, please make sure you're using the universal version of SoundConverter.
If that fails...
Please send me an email containing:
- which release of OSX and SoundConverter (see the SoundConverter About panel) you are using
- a description of the conversion you want to do
- sample input file (under 20MB) that won't convert
I'll try to fix it, but if I can't I can refund your purchase.
If you have an extra moment, please...
Open the Console application (in /Applications/Utilities) and then try your conversion
and email me the bit that is output to the Console log when the conversion fails. Thanks!
Dodgy format notes
.wma and .rm files
As described in the docs and on VersionTracker, these formats are *not officially supported*.
SoundConverter uses ffmpeg for dealing with wma and rm formats. ffmpeg's support for these
formats is relatively new (meaning buggy) and still being actively developed. I'll be updating
SoundConverter when improvements to ffmpeg are available, but until then you'll find that some
of these files will work and others won't.
.ra files
These aren't actually sound files, they just contain links to the actual .rm files. To get the rm file:
- open the .ra file in TextEdit
- copy the URL to the .rm file into your web browser
- download the .rm file
- now try converting the rm file
