    Licensing

      How do I purchase?

When you use a feature that requires a license, a license panel will appear with purchasing instructions.

      Where's my registration key?

As described on the payment page, no reqistration keys are emailed. You can just hit the "I've Paid" button if/when you see the license panel again.

I've lost my registration key, can you send it to me?

License keys are not sent. You can just hit the "I've Paid" button if/when you see the license panel again and as long as you are on the same machine/logic-board, it should work.

The "I've Paid" button says it can't find my payment.

Sometimes Paypal's IPN service is slow to register the purchase, please wait several hours and try the "I've Paid" button again.

When do I receive my license code? or
I've reinstalled my OS, can you send me my license code?

Just hit the "I've Paid" button when the license panel appears. As long as you are on the same machine you purchased the app from, it will work.

It says I don't have a license for this machine, but I'm on the same machine that I purchased a license for.

If you believe your current machine and logic-board are the ones you purchased a license for, please email me (steve@dekorte.com):

      • the name of the application you purchased
      • your machine's ethernet address as shown in the application's license panel (it's something that looks like ae:4b:09:c4:ed instead of 102.31.50.7)
      • the email address you used to make your paypal payment

If the ethernet address matches the one you purchased your license for, I will make sure we get it working. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a license for the new machine.

    License Transfers

I've moved to a new machine, can I transfer my license?

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear, but as described on the license purchasing page, the license you purchased is only for the machine it was purchased for. This is why the cost is so low and all updates are free.

My logic-board was replaced, can I transfer my license?

Yes, if you send me the service receipt and the ethernet address of the new machine (as shown in the application's license panel).

Why do you use a machine specific license instead of a version specific license?

Because this the only practical way, short of spyware, to ensure that the license isn't being pirated. ISVs who have looked into this report more than 50% piracy rate on serial number based licenses.

To compensate for having to license new machines, the per-copy cost is very low and all software updates are free. For the normal user this means the total cost of ownership should be lower (consider buying a $40 version-specific-license every three years vs. buying a $15 machine-specific-license every 2 years). The lower cost is possible since this license mechanism significantly reduces software theft, and therefore the cost of theft is not passed on to the paying users as it usually is.

Despite the low cost and free updates, I'm still not happy about the non-transferrable license...

If you find the current price too high for a non-transferrable license then please let me know what price you would find fair and reasonable. For example, if it were 1 cent per license would you be ok with a license being non-transferrable? If so, how about 10 cents, etc. I can then use this information to make my future pricing decisions. If the issue is ideological instead of economic (that is, if you want a transferable license, regardless of whether or not the total cost of ownership is higher), then this software isn't for you.

    Infrequently Asked Questions

How can I purchase your software without PayPal?

      Please include:

        - your machine's ethernet as shown in the application's license panel.

        - which platform this is for (OSX or Windows)

      Do you offer site licenses?

If you send me a list of ethernet addresses and a paypal payment for the cost of the application times the number of addresses (in US dollars), I can set them up in one batch for you. Then, all you'll need to do is tell your people to hit the "I've Paid" button when the license panel appears.
